Character Designs

Sometimes the most exciting designs originated from mere doodles. With the help of Adobe Photoshop, Painter and Adobe Illustrator, I was able to render these "doodles" into finished work. My influences range from fashion design, animated films, comic book art, costume history, and science fiction.

Character Designs II

I love 1950's style design and costuming. Adobe Illustrator was a great tool to achieve that graphic look for the first sample. I used a storybook style illustration for the second design, inspired by my son. The last samples are based on my experience in Javanese dance. The two characters are from the epic of Ramayana.

Life Drawing

It's fun to explore different styles with life drawing. It's important to me to express the emotion, movement/gesture (whether standing or reclined), and the anatomy of the figure.

Life Drawing II

(please click on samples for larger view). The first sample is a compilation of different "life" work, including sculpture, drawing, and oil painting.

Graphic Designs

I enjoy the challenge of creating a visual based on different needs and purposes of the client (please click samples for a larger view). The first are logo designs and the latter are interface designs, all using Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop.

Graphic Designs - II

These are various designs using Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop. The group of girls (below) are lapel pin designs for Hard Rock Cafe. It shows the process of creating the design, from blue (or red) sketch, clean up, to final pantone color keys ready for the manufacturer.

Sweet Solace - Visual Development

These are visual development for a film about Mary and Jesus. I chose to depict their younger days with a color cut-out style and the latter days with a woodblock print style. I wanted to depict Mary's very human story of love and the pain of experiencing the suffering of her child.

Sweet Solace - Visual Development II

These are the woodblock print style designs. I wanted the style to add to the emotional aspect of the story. I utilized traditional techniques and computer programs to acheive the visuals.

Tamaraw Hills Layout

These layouts are extremely dear to me. The first one is the exterior of my grandmother's old house, the second is an interior room. The film that the layouts were designed for was an expression of nostalgia and how much I miss my grandmother ever since I came to America.

Layouts

I am continually inspired by visions of the Philippines. These are animation layouts for a couple of story ideas.
